It is a slow day in a little Irish town, the rain is beating down and\u00a0the streets are deserted. Times are tough, everybody is in debt, and\u00a0everybody lives on credit.\u00a0On this particular day a rich German tourist is driving through the town,\u00a0stops at the local hotel and lays a \u20ac100 note on the desk, telling the hotel\u00a0owner he wants to inspect the rooms upstairs in order to pick one to spend\u00a0the night.\u00a0The owner gives him some keys and, as soon as the visitor has walked\u00a0upstairs…<\/p>\n
The hotelier grabs the \u20ac100 note and runs next door to pay his\u00a0debt to the butcher.
\nThe butcher takes the \u20ac100 note and runs down the\u00a0street to repay his debt to the pig farmer.
\nThe pig farmer takes the \u20ac100\u00a0note and heads off to pay his bill at the supplier of feed and fuel.
\nThe guy\u00a0at the Farmers’ Co-op takes the \u20ac100 note and runs to pay his drinks bill at\u00a0the pub.
\nThe publican slips the money along to the local prostitute drinking\u00a0at the bar, who has also been facing hard times and has had to offer him\u00a0“services” on credit.
\nThe hooker then rushes to the hotel and pays off her room bill to the hotel\u00a0owner with the \u20ac100 note.
\nThe hotelier then places the \u20ac100 note\u00a0back on the counter so the rich traveller will not suspect anything.<\/p>\n
At that\u00a0moment the traveller comes down the stairs, picks up the \u20ac100 note, states\u00a0that the rooms are not satisfactory, pockets the money, and leaves town.\u00a0No one produced anything. No one earned anything. However, the whole town is\u00a0now out of debt and looking to the future with a lot more optimism.<\/p>\n
