For years I\u2019ve lived a double life.
\nIn the day I do my job,
\nI ride the bus,
\nRoll up my sleeves with the hoi polloi.
\nBut at night I live a life of exhilaration,
\nOf missed heartbeats and adrenaline,
\nAnd, if the truth be known,
\nA life of dubious virtue.<\/p>\n
I won\u2019t deny I\u2019ve been engaged in violence,
\nEven indulged in it.
\nI have maimed and killed adversaries,
\nAnd not merely in self defence.
\nI have exhibited disregard for life,
\nLimb,
\nAnd property,
\nAnd savoured every moment.<\/p>\n
You may not think it to look at me,
\nBut I have commanded armies,
\nAnd conquered worlds.
\nAnd though in achieving these things
\nI have set morality aside,
\nI have no regrets.
\nFor though I\u2019ve led a double life
\nAt least I can say,
